Just been reading about the changes to this years Glastonbury Festival. Now i havn't been myself for the last 2 years, but went for 10 succesive years before that and believe me, there's no greater place on earth (except maybe Old Trafford, The Acadamy 3 and The Plough...more of that later), but its all looking a bit dodgy down at Worthy Farm at the present.
Headlining this year.. Jay Z, mmm well fair enough if you like that sort of thing but its hardly Radiohead is it.
More importantly the loss of the Lost Vaugeness Fields is a massive blow to Mr Eavis, as it incorparated the true spirit of the Avalon experience (and it was mad as fuck at 3 in the morn).
And finally they want campers to use 'potato tent pegs' instead of the more conventional (and practical) metal varierty. Now im as green as the next man, and the worry about the cows (it is a working farm after all) and metal pegs is all well and good but ive 'survived' 3 glasters in the somme-like conditions and somehow cant see yer average King Edward standing up to Rain, Wind, Mud and the middle classes pretending to be hippies for the weekend before they fuck off to Ascot to get over it. Mind you, coming back to your tent at 5 in the morn with the munchies...get the fire goin n have some chips...sorted.
So my advice to you is...wait for about 5 years till somewhere else becomes more fashionable (Bestival anyone?) and the booking policy is reviewed and revised and then get yer wellies on. oh and dont forget yer spuds.
